It started with Benjamin. A Florida kitten who decided the house was his, along with everyone in it. I got here a few months later — born in Mississippi, carried out of a flood, and found at six months in a pet-store cage wearing the name Mr. Boots. That name lasted exactly as long as the ride home. I've been Maximus ever since. Benjamin and I had nine years.
The house didn't stay quiet. Two more found their way in — one born in a flooded planter bed in the front yard, one who came up the fence line like he was late for an appointment. The chaos, the love, the stories that followed — I kept records of all of it.
And just like that, Miami had its 305 Cats.
